The Mark 2.1 Survivability Test Prototype was Grenund Constructive's extension of the Mark 2 medium tank, which experimentally reshaped the hull while also further upgrading the armour thickness. This armour redesign meant the Mark 1 and Mark 2 could not be easily converted. However, it did have the desirable capabilities that the Cindii were looking for, and the government funded the next tank
Primitive padding was inserted into some of the crew compartments in order to increase crew comfort, but it was later noted that this did not have the expected effect, instead cramping personnel more due to the reduced size of the hull. The Mark 2.1 never saw combat, but remained in "active" service before being converted to the new Mark 3.
