The Anti-Structure Type Radiation Augmented Laser - 1 Astero is a laser guided torpedo designed by Matchik Technologies for use against modern orbital structures. Receptors positioned around the body of the torpedo detect electromagnetic radiation signals emitted from communication systems on board stations, platforms and satellites, before directing the laser guidance system in its direction. The Astero can be launched from both starships and orbital structures, but requires prior input from the launcher in order to properly identify targets.
The ASTRAL-1A was released in 2165 by Matchik Technologies to moderate success. Designed in spite of the decline in demand for torpedoes, Matchik Technologies was contracted by several private militaries to design a new torpedo to replace ageing models. Although not intended as a public product, the ASTRAL-1A was also advertised to the Kolban Alliance, but no purchases were made.
The ASTRAL-1B is a newer model of the Astero still in development. It will bring upgrades to the torpedo's precision and increase its explosive class to 6. It will not be purchased by the Kolban Alliance but is planned to be adopted by the Dottian military.
