Sideways Collective Industries (SCI) is a mining and starship manufacturing company part of the Symbiote Triangle. It was founded by the pocket money of Fraser Regull and Bill Wilting, two close Human friends. It is arguably the most successful manufacturing company in written history, a considerable feat for a relatively young business. SCI initially mined asteroid fields and constructed already existing starship designs to sell on an open market. Thanks to the constant huge demand for starfighters and small warships, the two were able to make huge sums of money.

However, Wilting wanted to design starships of his own. He created an initial design, complete with a combination of newly developed technology from various industries. This was eventually developed into the Otera line of starfighters named after the planet they grew up on, which soon became their centrepiece invention. From this point, the company only expanded, until it became the second most successful existing organisation in the galaxy - only behind the Rosten Company.
